Which Sal Island Tour Should You Book? Five Options and What Each One Includes
7 min read
The short answer. For most people: the seven-hour island tour with a certified local guide, from €34.96 per person and rated 4.8/5 from 4,456 reviews. If you only want a morning: the all-inclusive four-hour version, €45 with the entrance fees in. If you want lunch and entrance fees covered in one booking: the full-day tour with lunch and entrance fees, from €65 per person.
These five tours share the Pedra de Lume salt lake, Shark Bay, the Blue Eye at Buracona and the Terra Boa mirage. The full-day routes also visit Palmeira. What those places are is covered elsewhere. This page is about the one decision that is left: which of these five listings to book. Compare the starting prices alongside each tour’s entrance fees and meal arrangements. Those extras change what you pay for the day.

These are starting prices. Confirm the pricing unit for your selected option on the booking page before comparing costs.

The price on the listing is not the price of the day
On Sal the entrance fees are separate gates, and each operator treats them differently. Read the includes and excludes before the headline.
The minibus tour at €29 includes hotel pickup and return in Santa Maria and the guide, and states that entrance to the Blue Eye, the shark bay and the salt flats is not included. The route stops for an hour in Espargos for lunch on your own; check the booking page for any other food or drink arrangements. Check the booking page for the three entrance charges before comparing the day’s total. The tour at €32.30 lists extra charges of €6 per person for the salt mine, €5 per person for Buracona and €3 per person at Shark Bay for the guide, sandals and bait. Bring cash for these extras and for meals and drinks, as the operator requests.
The seven-hour guided tour at €34.96 per person quotes €5 for the Blue Eye and €6 for the salt lake and marks both as extra-fee stops. Lunch is optional at €11 for an adult and €6 for a child, including one drink. Vegetarian and vegan options are available; inform the guide in advance.
Compare those extras as well as the starting price. The all-day tour with lunch and every entrance fee included costs from €65 per person. Water-shoe hire at Shark Bay still costs €2 on that package; bring your own if you prefer. Choose it if you want lunch and admission arranged together. The four-hour tour at €45 includes the entrances to the salt lake and the Blue Eye and the Shark Bay experience. Water shoes cost €2 to hire on site; bring your own or budget for that extra.
Four hours or seven
The four-hour tour is run by the same operator as the seven-hour guided tour and the full-day lunch package. It visits the salt lake, Shark Bay, the Blue Eye and the Terra Boa mirage. The seven-hour guided tour adds Murdeira Bay, Santa Maria, Palmeira, Espargos and a lunch stop, which is the part that explains what you have been looking at. Kite Beach is included only from October to March; the same seasonal restriction applies to the full-day lunch package.
Choose four hours if you want to leave time for the beach or prefer a shorter outing with children. For a flight day, confirm pickup and return times before booking. Choose seven if this is the one day you will spend away from Santa Maria. The four-hour tour is rated 4.7/5 from 3,129 reviews; the seven-hour guided tour is rated 4.8/5 from 4,456 reviews.
One visibility point applies to all of them. Visibility at the Blue Eye depends on weather, sea and sunlight conditions. See the Blue Eye and Pedra de Lume guide for more about the stops. When you book, check the start time you are given and ask the operator when the group reaches Buracona. Swimming in Buracona’s natural pool is subject to sea conditions and safety assessments.
Who these are not for
The seven-hour guided tour, the four-hour tour and the full-day lunch package all list wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments as not suitable. The tour at €32.30 excludes children under 6, wheelchair users and people with mobility impairments, heart problems, respiratory issues, animal allergies, visual impairments, pre-existing medical conditions or recent surgeries. If you are travelling with a child under six, choose an eligible alternative. The minibus tour at €29 excludes people with epilepsy, visually impaired people and people over 95.
For small children, the seven-hour guided tour offers baby seats free on request; the four-hour tour and the full-day lunch package offer baby and child seats free on request. Say so when you book.
If you want to drive rather than be driven, check the route, admission charges and licence requirements for the off-road buggy tour.
Our recommendation
For most people, the guided tour from €34.96 per person. It has a certified guide born on Sal, and a route that explains the place rather than just visiting it. Budget €5 for the Blue Eye and €6 for the salt lake; optional lunch costs €11 per adult or €6 per child and includes one drink.

Short on time: the four-hour tour at €45. Same operator, rated 4.7/5 from 3,129 reviews, with entrance fees included. Bring water shoes or allow €2 for hire.

Lunch and entry fees covered: the full-day tour from €65 per person. Lunch, one drink and every entrance included.

The tour at €29 needs a separate budget for entrance fees. Check its Blue Eye, Shark Bay and salt-flat charges on the booking page; do not assume they match another operator’s fees. Book it if you like the minibus and the free hour in Espargos, once you have confirmed the fees, schedule and group size.
